Interview with...

Jo @ Woof Walkers

Which pet service/s do you offer?
Woof Walkers offers mainly country walks with an experienced dog walker for a minimum of an hours walk, drop off and pick up. Cat feeding, pet taxi and home stay.
If you offer dog sitting or walking, please tell us some specifics.
All walks are undertaken in locations that are safe and enjoyable for the dogs. The walks are in excess of an hour with the dogs off lead for the maximum amount of time (with owner’s permission). The main focus is for the dogs to have fun and enjoyment. I am insured for up to six dogs, but try to keep the dog groups to 4 or 5. Initially I like to give new dogs time to adjust to walking in a group and introduce them slowly to the other dogs. I do occasionally take balls and toys on walks, but most of the time just do some general training if required, ie; heel, stay, come, leave, generally commands that make the walk more enjoyable for the dogs and me! Hopefully that would make life easier for the owners as well.
What are your opening hours?
Dog walking Monday to Friday, small pet feeding and home stay 7 days a week.
How long have you run your business for (in months or years)?
I started my UK business this year 2012.
What type of pet/s do you have yourself?
I have recently acquired the most adorable boxer, who joins me on many walks, I have a 15 year old cat that I brought with me from Australia last year, who is getting used to the weather, he has been surrounded by all the dogs that we took care of in Australia and is liking living with only one at the moment.
Do you have any recommendations to other pet owners?
Enjoy your pets, be patient, hopefully your pets will be with you for the whole of their life, they want to please you and just need your guidance to show them how to do it. Make your training fun and rewarding, sorry to repeat but BE PATIENT, a little assertive and give loads of love. If you get stressed they get stressed, so try to remain calm and patient!
Do you have any dreams for the future?
I am hoping to grow my business so I can start riding horses again and move back to a small village with a large garden/paddock, so I can keep chickens, foster dogs and cats, have a few horses and a donkey.
