Interview with...
South East Pet Companions |
What
services do you offer? |
We offer House Sitting and Daily Visiting services to areas of Surrey and South West London. Our pet carers look after dogs, cats, rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, gerbils, fish, birds, reptiles and even the occasional chicken. |
If
you do dog sitting in your house, is your garden secure? |
Our
Pet Companions dont offer a sitting service in their own homes. |
If
you do dog walking or dog sitting, how long are your walks
with the dogs normally? |
We
are careful to retain the routine of our clients pets. We
try to walk at the times the dogs are used to, for the same
length of time (plus a little extra if the pet can keep up!)
and to some of their favourite places. |
How
many dogs do you take into your house or on your walks? |
Our
Companions will only walk the pets in the home they are assigned
to. |
Do
you offer any activities for the pets in your care? For
example Kong toys, search exercises, etc |
Much
of the time on assignments is focused on our clients pets.
We play games - their favourites and introduce some new ones.
Companions also spend time gently re-inforcing training and,
where appropriate to the individual pet, encouraging socialisation. |
How
many pets do you have yourself and what are they? |
Due
to the type of work we do, Im not able to have my own pets
at this time, although I try to spend as much time as possible
at the local Dog Rescue Shelter as a volunteer walker. In
the past I have owned several very soppy indivuduals - both
dogs and cats. Jaffa and Purdy were brother and sister Lab
Pointer crosses from the RSPCA. They were completely inseperable
and passed away within a few months of each other aged 17.
Cheeky the Top Cat lived to a grand age of 21 and 5 other
cats came and went and were each loved very dearly. |
What
are your hobbies? |
I
wish I had time! My life is filled with cats and dogs! But
I cant complain. I enjoy catching up with friends, settling
down to a good film and cooking up a meal. |
Is
there anything that you would always recommend others
to try? |
Volunteering
in any capacity and working holidays. Not only are they personally
rewarding (and often cheaper than a regular holday!) but you
meet a wide range wonderful of people that you never would
have come accross otherwise. |
Do
you have dreams for the future? |
At
the moment a nice cup of tea would do it! |

Long working hours and needing to go away at short notice we avoided having pets. Finally we succumbed and rescued two kittens, but thankfully we also found Katie. We never worry about being away as we know our cats (and house) are being well looked after. Katie always responds even at short notice and busy holiday periods such as Christmas. We highly recommend South East Pet Companions. Lou and Jon

Roxy, has looked after our 2 dogs on a couple of occasions and has done a stirling job both times. The dogs love her and it gave us great peace of mind on our holiday. The dogs and the house have been well looked after and she even managed to repair our overflowing washing machine! That is what I call service! Well done Roxy. Geoff Fenton

I had the pleasure of having Hillary stay with our 8 cats while we were away on holiday. Normally I just have someone pop in and check on them while we are away but being that we were going to be gone 10 days I thought I would give the house/pet sitter thing a try. I knew right away after meeting Katie and Hillary that I had made a great choice. Hillary took great care of the "kids" and the house. It was such a comfort knowing someone was at the house spending time with them. We will definately use them again and request Hillary. I highly recommend Southeast Pet Companions! Roxy (at South East Pet Companions) has looked after our two dogs,
Phoebe the Weimaraner and Marco the Working Cocker for two of our
recent holidays (last one in Feb 2007). She did a really good
job and the dogs love her and she took really good care of our aging
Weimar when she caught Kennel Cough and Roxy coped admirably and
took her to the vet and generally sorted the situation. Can highly
recommend Roxy as your pet carer. Mike & Jeannie

Katie is a dependable, organized and caring individual who exhibits
the utmost in patience when dealing with any animal. She goes
above and beyond the normal pet sitting service by not just feeding
and maintaining your pet’s comfort
but also in striving to earn its trust. Katie has persevered in
gaining the affection of our cat, and those of us with cats can
understand that achievement! She is discreet, professional and
respectful of your privacy and property. Heather

Katie looked after our two dalmations last year for two weeks. No easy task,
as these dogs require constant attention and exercise! But Katie is much more
than just a dog sitter! Not only did she look after the dogs, walk them and feed
them as promised, she taught them things I didn't think were possible! She even
had them waiting for dinner and walking without pulling on the lead! I can honestly
say Katie gave her all, she obviously loves dogs and my dogs loved her. I would
highly recommend her to anyone. A brilliant service at brilliant value. John

To be able to go away on holiday with complete peace of mind that our cats are
in the best of care is a godsend. Katie purely and simply loves animals and has
an instinctive understanding of when things are fine and when they are not. We
absolutely adore our cats and hate leaving them behind but we are already planning
this year's holiday safe in the knowledge that Katie will be there. Sheila and

Katie
has been looking after my cats for 3 years now and I have been
very happy with the service. She takes great care to find out each
cat's personality and preferences. She is also very flexible in
terms of requesting morning, afternoon or evening feeds. I would
definitely recommend the service to my friends! Nicola Nicola Jordan

We
moved house about 6 mths ago and Katie was such a find. We have
two elderly cats and one needs medication daily and Katie looks
after them perfectly. She also keeps on eye on the house and puts
lights on/off so we always feel safe leaving her in charge. Katie
is a lovely bubbly person who loves her animals to bits and we
are so glad to have found her. Julie & Ian

South
East Pet Companions have looked after my dog Jake now on three
occasions whilst I have been away on holiday. Jake is a five year
old rescue dog from Battersea and it was important for me that
he was happy and secure when I went away. On each occasion the
same representative stayed at my home and I left Jake with complete
confidence in her. Jake loves her to bits. In addition it meant
that my house was secure when I was away and on my return I have
been greeted by a happy dog and clean and tidy house! I would highly
recommend South East Pet Companions. Cara Pickering

South
East Pet Companions was recommended to me through a friend and
looked after my cat Jamie in February. I work for the Cats Protection
and am very fussy about who looks after Jamie, particularly as
he has chronic renal failure and high blood pressure and therefore
needs extra special attention and to be given pills on a regular
basis. Our sitter, Katie, took exceptional
care of Jamie whilst we were away and I felt confident leaving
my cat in her care. I knew that if he become ill she would know
what to do and take Jamie to the vet immediately. I would recommend
South East Pet Companions - their care is second to none. Sarah

I just
wanted to say a huge thank you for looking after Bicester, Berkeley,
Polo, Ralph and Oscar! It really was a weight off my shoulders
knowing that you were here and that I didn't have to worry about
getting home. Catherine Purcell

Katie
(South East Pet Companions) has looked after our pets several times
now over the past 18 months and I would be very happy recommending
her to others. She is reliable and trustworthy and will go out
of her way to help us at short notice. More importantly the animals
love her to bits!! Anne Langridge

This
is just a quick email to sing the praises of Katie Barth, who recently
sat for me for two weeks whilst I was on a work trip. Katie has
walked my dog Daisy for several months now, Daisy is a lovely temperament
border collie, but one who is very stuck in her ways and previously
refused to go out with people she even knew well, including some
members of my family. Katie came over several times to walk her
with me, which ended up making the difference between her and other
previous failed walkers and giving me the peace of mind to leave
Daisy in her hands. The added bonus of having someone look after
your house as well as your dog makes it easier to leave, she also
took care of Bob the cat as well who despite being notoriously
angry, took to her as well! Thanks Katie for all you've done in
the past, I can't recommend you highly enough and my friends and
family are also hugely impressed. Please do feel free to contact
me for personal references for Katie any time you wish. Kind regards,
Helen Ogden.

I would like to supply a recommendation for Katie Barth, one of the dog sitters
registered on your excellent web site. I have known Katie for a number of years
and she has looked after our now elderly German Shepherd, Sam on a number of
occasions. As Sam is a rescue dog who had suffered significant maltreatment,
he does need sympathetic handling and although not due to a fault on his part,
he doesn't get on with other dogs, he has to be looked after at our home during
holidays etc. He also has an ongoing heart condition requiring twice daily medication
and a very cautious and precise exercise routine. Given all these factors, we
need to feel comfortable that the person looking after Sam can be trusted implicitly
with his welfare and Katie has always provided the most excellent service in
this respect. She has proven to be totally reliable, honest and trustworthy both
with regard to Sam and the care of our house whilst in residence. This has enabled
us to have a number of enjoyable breaks without worrying! Graeme Phillips
