Interview with...
Sally Cataroche @ Preseli Pet Care |
What
services do you offer? |
House
visits to check and feed cats and other pets,
horses looked after, pet taxi service, small
animal boarding (four foot hutches with a downstairs
run), dog walking, and in 2007, home
boarding for dogs and also house sitting.
We can also keep a check on your house, opening and closing
curtains and bringing in the mail; we can water your plants
and mow the lawns too if you wish. We guarantee a professional
attitude and will respect the privacy of your home. |
If
you do pet sitting in your house, is your garden secure? |
Yes,
our large garden is stock fenced all round. It is in a beautiful,
peaceful area on a four acre smallholding in the foothills
of the Preselis. Dogs are always kept well separated from
the horses and small animals. |
If
you do dog walking or dog sitting, how long are your
walks with the dogs normally?
|
Usually
one hour for dog walking. Dog boarders will be walked at
least an hour twice per day with games in-between. |
How
many animals do you take into your house?
|
Generally
around three dogs, if an owner has more than three dogs it
may depend on size as to how many can stay in our home. |
Do
you offer any activities for the pets in your care?
For example Kong toys, search exercises, etc |
Yes,
we love playing and interacting with the dogs. |
How
many pets do you have yourself and what are they? |
I
have an Andalusian gelding, Cervantes, who is now 20 and
unfortunately retired due to arthritis, and his companion
Half-Pint, a very angelic miniature Shetland. |
What
are your hobbies? |
My
partner and I both love walking in the surrounding countryside
and that's even better with some happy dogs to accompany
us. Otherwise trips away to other great places to walk, North
Wales, Lake District, etc. Swimming, cycling and reading,
learning more on animal behaviour. |
Is
there anything that you would always recommend others
to try? |
Enjoying
today if possible! |
Do
you have dreams for the future? |
Seeing
better rights and more protection for animals world-wide
would be great. |

We are delighted with the service provided by Sally Cataroche at Preseli Pet Care. Our 15 month old Labrador bitch Millie has now enjoyed two stays with Sally . She has loved every minute of her holidays at Preseli , and Sally has taken the trouble to send us a photodiary of Millie's adventures. We are very relieved to have found a holiday home for Millie when we are away. I think she likes it better there than she does at home!!!! Mike Cohen

My dog Kimi went to Sally at Preseli pet care for the first time over christmas and had a really fantastic time! The place really is a home from home and takes the 'guilt' out of going away. I recieved a full diary and photo's after kimi's stay, which was lovely and gave peace of mind. Sally is a complete natural with animals and i would not hesitate to use preseli pet care again in the future. I wouldnt use kennels again. Molly Gray

We have left Holly, our 10 month old golden retriever, with Sally on a number of occasions. Sally obviously has a love of animals and makes her house a second home for Holly. We feel totally confident in leaving Holly now - she also gets the benefit of socialising with other dogs which is so important as a puppy. We have no hesitation in recommending Preseli Petcare. duncan and christine halliday

Bailey is my adorable golden cocker spaniel, and when we need to go away for a few days I loathe the idea of leaving him in kennels - locked up for 22 hours a day in a cold brick cell, all alone!! So imsgine my sheer joy and relief at finding Sally from Preseli pet care in Pembrokeshire. Sally is a lovely lady who is obviously very at home with animals, and she lives (and the animals boarding with her) in a cottage down a quiet lane in the country, will a big garden all fenced in, so the dogs have the freedom to run til their hearts content. Sally takes them on long walks, and plays with them, and at night the dogs sleep in the house. So it was more like a holiday for Bailey really, a real home from home. I would recommend it to anyone who wants their dogs to have a good time. Brilliant!! Kathryn Wickett

Our daughter recently got married in Sorrento, Italy. Our beautiful Staffie cross dog, Joey, has had severe problems with separation anxiety - and so did I at the thought of having to leave him while we went to the wedding! Under the circumstances, kennels were out of the question, but then, my daughter came up with a magical solution....Sally, at Preseli Pet Care. We took Joey along with his best friend, Leo (my daughter's Lab, who also needed a home-from-home while we were away) to meet Sally. It was love at first sight! They both immediately took to Sally and lost no time in investigating her lovely cottage. Next time, they stayed with Sally for a few hours, then on another occasion, overnight. This allowed them to get used to her and vice versa. By this time, Joey got very excited when he saw Sally, and began rolling around on the floor, demanding attention. The time finally came when we had to leave Joey for a week, while we flew off to Italy. Even when we were there, we needn't have worried. Sally sent regular emails and text messages about Joey & Leo, to let us know what they were getting up to, so it was wonderful to have peace of mind. They had a fantastic time, with long, regular walks and games, and playing in the surrounding fields, 'helping'(?) Sally to bring in the hay. Joey also seemed to have completely won over Sally's friend, Gareth, as I found out later! After we returned and collected Joey (who seemed pleased to see us, but would also have been quite happy to stay with Sally even longer), Sally sent us a diary of his 'holiday' with her, including photos. My favourite one is of him completely crashed out on Gareth's lap, looking as though he owned the place (Joey, not Gareth!) I would not hesitate to recommend Sally. Joey is a lovely little dog, but as a rescue dog, it needed a very special person to win his trust. Sally was that person! Anita & Jeff Pugh

We have used Preseli Pet Care on several occasions and have found it to be very professional and trustworthy. Sally looks after our two staffordshire bull terriers which can be quite a handfull at times, but she has proved to be more than capable in doing this. The dogs have also been happy to see her. Sally also stays in our house whilst we are on holiday, Everytime we return the house is very tidy and the dogs are very happy. We highly recomend her service's and we plan to use her in the future. katrina davies

Our German Shorthaired Pointer, Smudge, has just spent 16 days at Preseli Pet Care and quite obviously had such a wonderful time that he was a little bit hesitant at first to come home! He loved all the attention that Sally gave him, plus the very long walks of course and is certainly looking forward to another holiday there! What a wonderful alternative to noisy and crowded kennels. We loved the diary that Sally provided too. Gill and Nick Flather

FANTASTIC. We got married in Wales and my only concern in planning was were Monty, my adored dog, would stay. There had been tears visiting kennels in the area and then fortunately we found Preseli Pet Care. I knew when we visited for the first time that Monty would be well looked after and immediately booked for 3 nights instead of my planned 1. It was a weight off my mind. On May 4th 2007 Monty was dropped off for his holiday. He had a wonderful time; amazing walks, more games than he gets at home and we received texts to let us know he was fine. Monty is extremely lively and he was absolutely pandered to. The icing on the cake was receiving an email diary of his stay a few days after collecting him. I'm not sure there is anyone who runs a service I could trust more with Monty. Despite living in Leeds I may have to drive to Wales before every holiday I take in the future. Thank you Sally. This was the first time we had left our beloved dog Tj, with any one, Sally made us feel that she would look after him as well as we did, this she did 100%. As we run a guest house nearby future customers that want to bring their dogs with them, they will be given Sallys number, as she will come highly recommended by us. Thanks Sally, from Diane & Tj

Sally took care of my elderly dog, Monkey, for 10 days at the
beginning of January 2007. I was worried about leaving
her due to her age but there turned out to be no need. Sally
kept me regularly updated with emails and photographs whilst
I was abroad which I found incredibly comforting. Upon
my return, Monkey hardly wanted to leave! Monkey has
since sadly made her way up to Doggie Heaven but if I have
another dog in my life in the future, Sally would be the one
I want to look after him/her. Highly recommended! Kathleen

I have known Sally for approx 2yrs since she moved her horse
and miniture shetland from Guernsey to the livery yard in Wales
where i work and keep my pony. For 3 mnths she looked after
the liveries (ranging from 12hh to over 17hh, and 3 yrs to
over 30 yrs) and sheep before starting work at an animal behaviour
centre. There she studied (passing the exams taken) and looked
after a wide range of animals including tortoises, chinchillas,
tropical and pond fish as well as the usual farm animals pigs,
chickens etc and family cats and dogs as well as housesitting
in the owners frequent abscence. Despite working full time
Sally would readily help out when needed and is one of only
two people i trust to look after my aged pony with cushings.
Sally is quiet and patient with the animals always considering
their mental as well as physical needs, very thorough in regards
to feeding, exercising, applying medicines and first aid etc,
and always puts the animals welfare first. Sally has proved
herself to be friendly, honest and completely reliable and
i have no hesitation in recommending her for any animal related
job. A O'Neill BHSAI
