Interview with...
Andrea @ Dunstable Dog Care |
Which pet service/s do you offer? |
Dog sitting/boarding in our home. |
If you offer dog sitting or walking, please tell us some specifics. |
Because of our young daughter and our own dogs’ gentle natures, we can only accept SMALL or MEDIUM SIZED SPAYED BITCHES (weighing up to 30kg) who do are not especially high maintenance. We only accept one family’s dogs at time. We cannot accept families with more than two dogs, male dogs or larger sized dogs. Please see our website for further information. As a family we are able to provide lots of doggie fun and games, a nice quiet safe place to stay, or anything between. We can offer lots of love and cuddles, various doggie games, walks and swimming in the summer. We typically walk for an hour and a half in the morning and have a shorter walk in the evening. |
What are your opening hours?
|
We tend to be fairly flexible, but roughly 7:30am – 8:30pm |
How long have you run your business for (in months or years)?
|
Since October 2006. |
What type of pet/s do you have yourself? |
We have two Springer Spaniels both 2 years old. Daisy-May is a spayed bitch and Choccy is a castrated male. |
Do you have any recommendations to other pet owners? |
I am finding it hard to make a general recommendation because pet-owners and their situations are all so different. So I will instead just say something I’m very glad I did, that is very much a personal decision. It was to be with and hold Kelly, our very much loved 16 year old Springer who died in May 2007, as she was being put to sleep. It gives me great comfort to this day to truly know she passed away peacefully surrounded by those that loved her. |
Do you have any dreams for the future? |
I have many dreams for the future. These include a brother or sister for our daughter, Martha; generally more respectful treatment of those not in positions of power (the elderly, children and animal, etc); and better care of our planet. |

We cannot recommend Andrea and Matt at Dunstable Dog Care highly enough. They are both professional and very caring and have made our puppy Alfie feel completely at home! He adores playing with their springer spaniels, and comes come very tired but happy. Alfie has stayed on four occasions now and becomes excited just pulling up outside the house. Very highly recommended. Colleen McDonnell

Andrea and Mathew looked after Muddles for a few nights whilst we were at my brothers wedding. We were impressed right from our initial contact. We visited thier house and met Choccy and Daisy-May (thier dogs). We were immediately put at ease by thier obvious love of dogs and thier professionalism when caring for them. Once we had been for a walk I felt completely happy leaving Muddles and by all accounts she came home happy and tired from all the attention she had obviously enjoyed. We will be asking Andrea and Mathew to look after Muddles again and I would confidently recommend them to my friends and family for their dogs. Jo and Jamie, Hitchin

Andrea has been fantastic looking after our dog Milka and we can't recommend her highly enough! Milka (our four year old cocker spaniel cross) stayed with Andrea and her husband Matt for two weeks while we were in Australia. Milka had a wonderful time playing with the other dogs and going on long walks. Andrea's love and patience with dogs was obvious and Milka was made to feel very much at home. She even taught him to walk on the lead properly (ie without pulling your arm off!) We thoroughly trusted Andrea and had a great time in Australia knowing that Milka was having such fun. We wouldn't hesitate to leave Milka with Andrea again and we are sure that Milka would be thrilled to return. Carolyn & Omar

Andrea looked after our 6 month old Weimaraner for a week. The care she received was exemplary. Andrea took care of her medical needs as she needed a visit to the vet. She also allowed Kizzy the luxury of sharing her bed. She had over two hours of daily exercise and loved playing with Andrea's dogs. When we next went to see Andrea, Kizzy in her eagerness to see Andrea, jumped the wall to get to her front door. I would definately use Andrea again. A lovely person with an obvious love and compassion for dogs. Joanne Easter-Bauly

Pippin loves going to Andrea's and has to be dragged home. Andrea is extremely patient with her and as a young puppy, Pippin is learning a lot from being with Andrea and the older dogs. She always come home in a happy and tired state after a thoroughly enjoyable day. Andrea is so helpful and understanding; she has provided a lot of support to us as new owners and we do not know what we would have done without her help and care. Wendy Young

Our dog Badger stayed with Andrea for two nights and has a fantastic
time. he had a lovely time playing with her dogs and was well
looked after. I would recommend her and have already booked
her again this summer!! Samantha Hilts

I
would thoroughly recommend Andrea. Together with her husband
Matt, they have looked after our cocker Henry on a number of
occasions. Henry loves going there and playing with the other
Spaniels. He goes on long country walks and always comes home
exhausted! You only have to watch him pull towards her front
door when we arrive at Andrea’s house to know how much
he enjoys staying there. Richard Cowen

Excellent!
Andrea is fantastic with our cocker-spaniel and takes her in
as one of her own. Sophie is always excited turning up
and always tired when we pick her up in the evening after her
long walks and plays with Andrea's own dogs. We trust
Andrea completely with Sophie and are very happy we have found
a dog sitter who we can leave Sophie with knowing that she
is going to have a fantastic day in safe hands. Lauren Archer

Our springer, Jasper, loved his holiday with Andrea, Matt and their
trio. Their love of dogs is obvious, and I have found them
to be very accommodating, totally professional and extremely
capable. It's very reassuring to know that Jasper is in such
good hands. I have absolutely no hesitation in using Andrea
and Matt next time we go away and Jasper and I cannot recommend
them highly enough. Julia Jenkins

Andrea and Matt have looked after our Shar-Pei Lola on a number of
occasions. When we first decided to go on holiday after
getting Lola I was so concerned about leaving Lola in a kennel
as you hear such awful stories. Luckily we contacted
Andrea and she agreed to have our little lady on a trial night. Lola
absolutely adored Andrea and the family and has been back for
a number of stays ever since. She is looked after better
than I could have dreamt of. Andrea and Matt are two
loving, caring people who think the world of their dogs. Lola
is treated as one of their own when she stays which is such
a reassuring thought. Lola comes back from her stay
looking fantastic. I would have no problems recommending
Andrea and Matt to anyone. Nicola Appleyard

Andrea took care of our elderly terrier for 12 days in December 2006.
We were extremely happy with the care she was given. She can
be grumpy towards other dogs and Andrea managed her behaviour
very professionally. She was the only dog boarded and settled
in well with the 3 existing family spaniels. She was given
a quiet place of her own but could play with the other dogs
in a very dog friendly home. She also had plenty of exercise.
I would not hesitate to recommend Andrea to another dog owner.
We have our dog booked in for another stay in 2007. Nic Watson

My Labrador Henry went to stay with Andrea overnight and had a
great time it was reassuring to leave him with someone who
gave him so much love and attention. Janet Large

Pan,
our hyper-active Border Terrorist (!) stayed with Andrea whilst
we went on holiday. After going and visiting before we left
and seeing how happy Pan was there with Andrea's dogs I didn't
have to worry about him the whole time we were away (I still
missed him though!). Andrea looked after him wonderfully and
treated him like one of the family - I think he was sad to
leave! And as for the exercise and fun - he's been asleep since
we picked him up! Thanks again Andrea for taking away the stress
and the terrible thought of Pan having to go to kennels! Lara

Andrea
(and her husband Matt) have been coming to DogBasics training
with two of their three dogs for some time now and I've got
to know them both as a very level headed, but fun and loving
people. They both dote on their 3 Springer Spaniels and they
treat their dog boarding dogs as if they were their own and
the dogs clearly adore them both. The fact that they've managed
to keep their soon to be 16 year old Springer Spaniel bitch
in such fantastic nick (she looks like she's 8 years old!)
is just proof of how much they love their dogs. I wouldn't
for a moment hesitate to recommend Andrea and Matt as dog sitters
for your dog. You'll see what I mean when you meet them! Caroline
