Interview with...

Louise Wilsher @ CDPoM

Which pet service/s do you offer?
All animals catered for, including special needs pets, cats, dogs, fish, reptiles and amphibians, horses, birds, caged pets (rabbits, hamsters, guinea pigs, hens etc.), exotic pets (peacocks, spiders etc.) Services include, daily pet visiting, overnight pet sitting, dog walking and training, alternating lights/curtains, doggie day care, basic grooming, behaviour modification, house sitting, pooper scooper service, pet transportation, mail/newspaper retrieval, specialty pet products including food.
If you offer dog sitting or walking, please tell us some specifics.
Daily dog walks: Each of the carers that work with Cats, Dogs & Peace of Mind walks a maximum of three dogs at a time for a minimum of 50 minutes (not including the time spent with the dogs in their own homes). Only one owner's dogs are walked at a time unless otherwise requested. Where a signed declaration is provided by the owner we like to let dogs off their leads. We often have balls and toys to enhance a dog's enjoyment. As well as visiting your home and your pets while you’re away or simply too busy Cats, Dogs & Peace of Mind also offers a London-wide, live-in house and pet-sitting service. When our carers house sit what they do is watch over your dogs, cats or other pets and your home, property and possessions. The presence of one of our security-vetted, fully insured carers living in your home ensures enhanced security. We offer three tiers and tariffs: 1) Daycare, which covers eight hours during daytime where the carer stays in the customer’s home and looks after and exercises the pet/pets. 2) Overnight stays, which cover a minimum 24-hour period where the carer stays in the customer’s home and looks after the pet/pets and home as the customer would if he/she/they were working – i.e. the carer will be away for no more than eight hours (but no more than four hours at any one time) in any 24-hour period. 3) House-sitting 24-hour stays, which again cover a minimum 24-hour period but this time where the carer will be away for no more than two hours in any 24-hour period. This means there is no need to put your pets in kennels or catteries, as your home and your animals are safe and secure in our hands. We can also water your plants. We have testimonials from numerous delighted clients that confirm the quality of our work.
What are your opening hours?
We have a 24 hour answering service, but our office is physically manned during normal office hours.
How long have you run your business for (in months or years)?
8 years, since 1999.
What type of pet/s do you have yourself?
All of CDPOM’s carers are animal lovers. They are led by founder and director Louise Wilsher, with her Chocolate Labrador, Otto (b.2002), and tabby cat, Cheeky (b 1994). Mad Smith (seen above on the right in the picture with Louise on the left) has three cats. Jasmine and Phoebe, who are both British Blues and very, very cheeky, and Wolfie a long hair Blue stray who adopted Mad. Eva Chesswas has a cat called Flower and two dog, Daisy and Joe. Jeremy Fenouillet has a Boxer dog called Betty and several cats back home in France. Lita Allerton-Austin has had dogs in the past but has recently become the owner of a little kitten and two corn snakes. Lisa Lobendhan has two gorgeous 9-year-old cats, brother and sister Barney and Jill, and a dog called Jade, who was rescued back in November 2006 and is settling in very well.
Do you have any recommendations to other pet owners?
Enjoy your animals, love them and cherish them, make sure they are properly trained and socialised from the earliest possible time and whenever possible enjoy a glass of Champagne with your feet up!
Do you have any dreams for the future?
Overall, my dream is for CDPOM to be recognised as the best pet care company in Britain providing total peace of mind to all pet owners. Personally I would love to have a holiday home in Italy and a season ticket on the trans-continental train network so our dog Otto can use his pet passport to join me and my husband Roger as we travel across Europe.

I can’t recommend CDPOM & Madelaine highly enough. Whilst on holiday, Madelaine visited my house rabbit twice daily to clean, feed and give her the cuddles & attention she so loves. Upon my return I was so happy to find a bright and clearly very content bunny. An excellent & highly professional service. Kate

Cats, Dogs & Peace of Mind is an excellent service that we often use for our cats-when we return they are happy and we are glad to know they are being cared for by people who have their interests at heart. Would highly recommend to anyone who doesnt or cant use a cattery/kennel as the home visits are so convenient. Alison and Roger

4 January 2009

I have had various cat sitters in the US and UK and these folks are by far the most organised, the spend the most time with my pet (I have a doorman who has let me know how long they stay) and they leave me notes daily so I can see how each day went. Love the service and the people. They are the best Evan

7 July 2008

Very professional service - included a consultation visit & full log of my needs. A diary was there on my return with a daily note on my cats behaviour & eating pattern. I'd been concerned about my over friendly cat wandering off while I was away - Madelaine replied to texts I sent from abroad providing re-assurance. After a 10 day hol I found fresh milk in the fridge! J Ball

I have written before about how wonderful CDPOM is but I forgot to add that we have used them many, many times over the last year and they have been utterly reliable and wonderful. We've been extremely happy with CDPOM, having used them 20+ times in the past 2 years, for up to two weeks at a time. CDPOM alway provide a friendly and reliable service. The cats and dogs are well looked after and do not have the stress of having to leave home to go to the kennels or cattery! Caroline Buchanan

29 January 2008

I was very worried about leaving our new young cat Pushkin over Christmas as she was 6 months old and we had recently moved in. I was thrilled with the services of CDPOM - Madelaine texted me often to let me know how Pushkin was doing, and eft a detailed diary of what the cat did and ate during our absence and even left a pint of milk for us which was much appreciated after a long drive back! Pushkin was very happy and relaxed on our return and I am so glad I did not use a cattery as he was obviously much happier in his own home with someone nice to visit and fuss over him. I will be using CDPOM again and recommend them to others who are worried about leaving their pets to be looked after whilst they are away. Penny Hone

23 December 2007

We have used CDPOM since we got our cat and we are very happy with the service! The sitters are very friendly and we always come home to a happy, clean, well-fed cat. They are usually available at short notice and are very efficient - leaving a note with tick boxes to say what they have done, e.g. changed litter, refreshed water. The best thing is the mini-diary of every visit - we come home to find out what our cat has been up to! For example: "Stabby (the cat) met me at the door today and we had a little play with the ball." The personal touch! Highly recommended. Ida

15 November 2007

We're so so happy with the service and our cat ANIA seems very happy too!!! Thanks again for everything and see you soon! Kisses, A Angeles

5 September 2007

CDPOM walked my very neurotic weimeraner Floozie twice a day when all her people were away for a family do, we came back to find her very happy and are so pleased as it now means we have found a solution for going away without worrying about her, i strongly recommend them. Sophie Silver-Stanton

23 August 2007

For the first time in 8 years we had to resort to a company rather than a family member to look after our cat Nicole and contacted CDPOM. From the first visit, where we met Louise, we knew Nicole would be in the hand of people pasionate about pets who understand how precious they are. Upon return from holiday Nicole looked relaxed and we could tell that she had no complain about her carer. I dare say she liked being fussed over by someone new, made her feel special and cat love that! The daily report left for us to read was so sweet and we even found a milk pint in the fridge to welcome us back. I recommend CDPOM to all of you who are so worried about having to leave you precious little friends/babies alone for a while. Thank you Louise. Nathalie, Pawel & Nicole

16 August 2007

I have been in London with Laurel and Hardy (my two cats) for 3 years, but had to travel a lot around. CDPOM was the best solution which I could have found. They did a great job and L&H have always been very happy. I could not have coped without their service. Now, I go back home and take them with me, so no need for having cat sitting any longer, but would always go back to them. Anja

30 June 2007

CDPOM have looked after my 2 cats when I've been away over the past 2 years and they really do give me peace of mind. It's usually the same people who visit each time and they clearly get to know our cats personalities well - evident from the report card they update daily which is a very nice touch. I always get home to find shiney happy cats! jilly maclean

21 June 2007

I would highly recommend this company.  I have left my two cats in their care on numerous occasions and have always come back to find them bright, well-fed and well-taken care of.  The cat tray is always maintained immaculately. And as an added touch, the carer keeps a brief diary outlining how each visit went in your absence.  Finally, there is always a pint of milk in the fridge for when you get back!  Samantha Hulass

14 June 2007

CDPOM have looked after my cats over the last two years, whilst I have been away. They provide an excellent service, and will water plants, pull curtains and give treatment to animals as necessary. I have been very happy and would highly recommend them. Diane Phillips

11 June 2007

CDPOM have been catsitting for us for a couple of years now and have always been utterly reliable. They leave us a little report to tell us how our cat has been getting on without us. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them. Mia Milner-Moore

18 May 2007

Madeline from CDPOM recently took care of my cat for me when I needed to attend a funeral in Dublin. She did an excellent job and I would not hesitate to recommend her or the company to anyone. Their attention to detail is excellent. My cat was on a special diet, which Madeline stuck to. I also needed to extend my stay at short notice. Again Madeline was very accomodating. Top marks all round. Chris
